DRAGON ON THE WEB
Well, first of all I will start with myself. My name is Steve Burns, and I and my family reside in Cardiff in Wales in the UK. I am 62 years old and have recently taken early retirement to look after my disabled wife.
I will not put anything in about the early part of my life, as it was just an ordinary time with great parents, school etc. But I joined good old British Rail as an apprentice fitter at 15 years old. I stayed with them until I was 21 and knew it all and left to find a better job. Well I rapidly proved that I did not know it all and ended up joining the buses as a conductor after a few months out in the real world. This ‘stop gap’ lasted four years and I became one of the first to drive the then new one man buses.
One thing that must be put in here was the loss of my brother Christopher when I was 21 years old. He died in a road accident and it was a terrible time for the family. If I did not have Mary to lean on me and give support I do not know what I would have done.
I got a job driving wholesale fish for three years when I left the buses and after that anything would have been good! I came back to Cardiff Bus in 1977 and stayed with them until this year, 2010. I worked as a driver, inspector, radio controller, and finally ended up in the Allocations office where I stayed
for over 20 years. This was one of the busiest offices in the company and by the end looking after Mary and working became to much.
I checked the money out and after a lot of thought decided to retire at the end of March 2010. So far I think I have made the right decision and a lot of the stress has gone.
My wife Mary passed away in July 2010 and a new life has begun. I now drive coaches for National Express and I guess this is wear I will stay until 2013 when I think about full retirement. However if I am fit and healthy I will probably want to carry on a couple of days a week just to keep busy.
One thing that I have always had in my life is my love of photography. I started in school where they had a photography class and still enjoy it. I will put in a few links but to see more, just click HERE to check out the main albums.
To the right and below some photos taken in a local park with my new camera just to test it out.
